= Farmers expressed discontent during the period from 1870-1990 because of the rising debts and unfair railroads contributing to the desire for change within farms. Many farmers joined together in hopes of radical reform through political means leading to the creation of the Populist party. Politics were greatly impacted by the populist party in regards to the government's interaction with the states and monetary policies. The corruption within the government was also a primary factor of discontent among farmers and various other social groups. Because of the unfair railroad debts arising, farmers were forced to pay high fees in order to survive in the economy, in order to counteract this, the Populist party was created.
