Answer (a) Some of the key teachings that need to be explained to the patients such as the benefits if the drugs and it's mechanism of action. It is important that patient should be aware of the side effects of the drugs such as dizziness, drowsiness, diarrhea, etc. If any of these increases, the patient need to report to the physician. The patient should be informed that he should stand slowly and sit slowly. The drug should be taken a long with the food to reduce the side effects.

Carvedilol is prefered drug to treat Mr. Rodriguez for his combined hypertension and congestive heart failure because carvedilol belongs to the class of drug known as beta blockers. The beta blockers works on both heart and circulation. Hence this is a better choice of drug to treat hypertension as well as congestive heart failure.
