Globalization of trade promotes exporting and importing of goods like alcohol and tobacco at negotiable rates, leading to pandemic of non communicable diseases. |

The impact of globalization on the HIV/AIDS epidemic
Globalization increased the rate of migration. With migration of people worldwide, the disease causing pathogens too migrate. Acculturation and assimilation further leads to spread of such pathogens across people. More than 58 million people are infected with HIV AIDS and is rapidly spreading worldwide. In other words globalization has affected the spread of disease as well as caused a collective response against this rapidly spreading disease. Around 33 million population is infected with HIV in each country. Globalized problems like AIDS have an impact on economic development and security of a nation and it has caught the international attention and is a regular agenda in international meetings like World Economic Forum, ASEAN, United Nations General Assembly, the Africa union etc. As a result the global expenditure on AIDS has increased as well as UNAIDS(Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS) was established in 1996 in order to provide an integrated and comprehensive action against AIDS. This international responses has improved the access to antiretroviral medicines and worldwide there's a marked reduction in morbidities associated with AIDS compared to previous years. Increasing global awareness programs also has brought a marked change in attitude towards HIV infection and approach towards the infected individuals. Despite of the massive international funding and services offered, HIV is still prevalent globally and it is considered that for every 2 people starting with antiretroviral therapy another 5 new cases are being reported.
