Tramadol is a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic.it comes under the class serotonin reuptake inhibitor.it acts on serotonergic and noradrenergic nociception

Use:-

It is used in acute and chronic pain of moderate to severe intensity.

Its main use is in post oprative and cancer pains.

Tramadol is considered a safe analgesic with analgesic potency well below morphine

Tramadol is almost completely absorbed after oral (>90%),rectal or intramuscular administrations.average bioavailabilty is 70%.

Complications and adverse effects:-

Adverse effects include nausea,vomiting,headache,increased sweating,dry mouth,cardio vascular dysregulations.

Dependance to mediction may occur.

Withdrawel reactions include,restlesness,agitation,anxiety,insomnia

Respiratory depression is seen in overdose patients.this is beacuse opites reduce the carbondioxide sensitivity of respiratory center.
