  1. Glucose infusion rate is a measure of how quickly the patient receives carbohydrates. Typically, this number should be less than 4 mg/kg/min in order to prevent hyperglycemia and steatosis.

Use the following equation to determine a glucose infusion rate:

GIR in mg/kg/ min = % of dextrose x (Infusion rate, mL/hr) / (Weight, kg) x 6

= 25 x 85 / 84 x 6

=4.2 mg/ kg / min

  1. BMR rises 7% for each degree the body temperature rises above 98.6 F. BMR rises 13% for each degree the body temperature rises above 37 C.

In the question temperature of the patient is 102.6 °F.

So the answer is 7 x 4 =28 %
