the national health and nutritional examination survey is a survey research program conducted by national centers for health statistics. It help to assess the health and nutritional status of adult and children and track the change over time .

The survey combines interview, physical examination and laboratory test.

all data NHANES is cross sectional, which limits the type of study that can be performed

limitation of cross sectional study

- the temporal relationship between exposure and disease outcomes can be unclear

- identification of case of long duration

Benefits of cross section study

- data on exposure status and health outcomes status are collected from each respondents at the same point in time
