Neural tube defects like developmental defects in spinal cord brain or skull which is prevented by vitamin folate . For this reason and to prevent neural tube defects vitamin folate is given to the pregnant lady from 1st trimester of the pregnancy and even advice to start the folate vitamin before conceiving of 1 to 2 months so as to secure the fetus development .
