Why is it likely that both genetics and the environment determine body weight?

Why is it likely that both genetics and the environment determine body weight?

Answer #1

Genes give body the instructions for responding to changes in the environment. Not all people living in the same environment become obese nor does all obese people have the same body fat distribution or suffer from the same health issues.

Genetic changes in humans occur very slowly. Variations in how people respond to same changes in environment suggests that gene plays an important role in it.

Likewise, other factors like over eat tendencies, sedentary life, food availability, financial stability, metabolism of the body etc. also contribute to obesity or malnouriment.
