traditionally, The nurse can record it manually and get a witness nurse to sign na dreturn it to the pharmacy after removal of medication

· .Before the medication from The pyxis, the nurse should check the physician order

· One nurse check documents manually regarding the usage of the medication and amount of remaining medication and date and time of administration of medication

· Another nurse witness procedure and sign the procedures

in use of pyxis, the nurse can remove themedication by selecting my patient and selct the medication under the presence of witness, then order is verified after comparing patient medication administeration record, then monitor alerts the nurse reagrading the medication orders by showing alarms. then the nusre enter amount medication to be give, then she will remove medication after undergoing certain procedures of verification. she close the drawer. only medication can be ordered for one patient at a time.

1. nurse who accidently removes medication,  can return medication by selecting the my patient in menu and select return option and return to automated drug dispensing device only if the medication is intact and not opened under the witness of the another authorized nurse

2. In use of pyxis:the following safty measures has been follwed by all staff and nurse

Technician who also identifies about the medication to be delivered at correct place

Labels that display patient names in the med station help to prevent the medication errors. Because profile med station allows only to remove a drug in a proved list

Profile med station contains a list of medication for each patient. The pharmacist checks the doctor prescription before giving the medication. Because pyxis will deliver medication after verification of the physician order by the pharmacist, nurse can remove medication from the pyxis. Nurse should have witness while removing medication from the pyxis and both nurse should verify and removes the ordered medication. If the medication is administered, empty vial s should be returned in a plastic bag in external bin undre the witness presence. vial should be labled it as patient name, MRN.

if the partial dose is given, it should be returned in internal bin after removing partial dose of medication under the presence of witness nurse and select the waste in pyxis and enter the amount of medication to the patient
