Samwise has a severe streptococcal throat infection for which his doctor prescribes amoxicillin for a period of seven days. After two days, he feels much better and decides to stop taking the medication and save it for another time. Three days later, however, he suffers a relapse of the streptococcal infection.

a. Discuss the probable cause of the relapse.

b. Samwise decides to start taking the amoxicillin again after the rebound infection, but finds that it is not effective at treating the infection. What could be the reason for this?

c. One of the other reasons why Samwise decided to stop treatment with the amoxicillin was due to diarrhoea. Why do you think this happened?

C) side effects of amoxcillin, diarrhea occurs because the normal flora of Gastrointestinal tract is deranged because of amoxicillin, this leads to clostridial difficle growth in the gastrointestinal tract, this produces toxin which destroys the intestinal lining leading to diarrhoea
