A single acting reciprocating pump has a piston of 200mm diameter and a stroke of 320 mm and runs at 15 rpm. The level of the water in the sump is 5m below the center line of the pump and the storage reservoir is 25m above the center line of the pump. The suction and delivery pipes are 10m and 26m long and are 100mm and 125mm in diameter respectively. Assume vapor pressure of water as 2.1m (absolute), friction factor (f) =0.18 (to be used in frictional head loss equation flv2/2gd) and atmospheric pressure=10.3 m of water. Estimate the absolute pressure and gauge pressure inside the pump when the piston has moved through an angle of 45 degrees from the outer dead center in terms of m of water.
