Homework Answers

Answer #1

Following are some of the important characteristics of sites suitable for wind farms:

1)n Sites which are located on top of hills and no nearby disturbances to wind flow providing high average wind speed.

2) Wind turbine produce high noise so a suitable separation
distance should be available from nearby noise sensitive neighbours.

3)The point of use of electricity is usually located far from sites so a proper grid connection should be possible or available.

4)Transportation and site access should be easy since these structures are heavy.

5)No environment restrictions, since it is harmful for bird life so if such restrictions exist then site is not suitable.

Distance between turbines:
Turbines in the same row are usually spaced at 5 times the rotor diameter and the distance between consecutive rows is taken as 10 times the rotor diameter.
