First Let us understand the difference between Onshore wind farms and offshore wind farms .

Onshore Wind Farm - Wind that blows from sea towards land

Offshore Wind Farm - Wind that blows from land towards sea .

Now we all know offshore wind farms can harness consistent , frequent and powerful winds because offshore winds have consistent speed and direction .The number of turbines required are comparatively less as to onshore winds. Here wind speed / force is very high compared to onshore wind farm which directly results in harnessing more powerful and consitent winds .
