I have a square hollow sectioned pillar that is 100mmx100mm by 8mm thick, and want to replace it with a circular solid secioned pillar. The material is carbon steel. What would be the smallest diameter you are able to use?

Answer #1

We have square hollow section pillar of dimensions 100 mm*100 mm*8 mm.

Material = Carbon.

The strength of the component is proportional to section modulus "Z" , which is "I/y".

Let us equate section modulus of a hollow rectangle and circular rod.

Section modulus of hollow square rod = Z = 1/6d(bd3 - b1d31).

Section modulus of square rod = Z = 1/6*100 (100*1003 - 84*843) = 83688 mm3.

Section modules of circular solid rod = 3.14*d3/32.

Let us equate both section modulus,

83688 = 3.14*d3/32

Diameter of solid circular rod = d = 94 mm.

You and I want to communicate using RSA. I have found a “large” prime for us to use, n=33 (3*11). a) Calculate the totient and come up with the smallest possible private key that will work. Justify that this private key is good (point out what has to be true). b) Calculate the associated public key. Start at least by writing down what has to be true for a value to be the public key. c) What are your public...

You have a steel cable 100 m long, that you want to use for a zipline. You set it up in the middle of summer when the temperature is 40◦C. You install it to be completely taut between its endpoints. If the temperature outside can drop to -10◦C during the winter, how much extra force do the joints holding the ends of the zipline have to be able to withstand due to the temperature changes (other than a normal load...

Hi I appreciate you taking my question. I Want you to explain how to do it. I have no data so please makeup data or variables and show work of how to get points and solving. Thank you! *HOW WOULD I SET THIS UP IN A CHI-SQUARE TEST* An example for numerical to categorical data off the top of my head: Light of different color has different wavelengths, but certain ranges of wavelengths qualify as certain shades/hues/tints/etc. You can generalize and say a certain range can be called "blue" or "red". Red is usually attributed to light that has a wavelength between 780 and 622 nanometers, whereas blue light is between 492 and 455 nm. To the average...

You have a glass of water at 83 degrees C. You want to boil it by putting it in a vacuum. What is the smallest percentage of air molecules you would have to remove from the vacuum chamber to allow it to boil? Hint: to boil, the vapor pressure of water must be equal to the external pressure. (You will have to refer to a chart to figure out the vapor pressure of water at 83 degrees). (Remember, atmospheric pressure...
