Question

when should you use pumps in parallel and pumps in series?

when should you use pumps in parallel and pumps in series?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

When pumps are connected in parallel, then usually it is used for high discharge. Fluid is taken from common sump and delivered to the common pipe (delivery pipe). This results in more amount of discharge.

To obtain high head instead of high discharge, pumps in series is preferred. In this, the one pump increase the pressure of fluid. The pressure of this fluid is again increased by another pump which is in series. This results in more head.

Hence, when high discharge is required than pumps in parallel and if high head is required than pumps in series is preferred.

Thank you.
