Explain what is the difference between centrifugal and centripetal forces.
Centripetal Force
Consider if a particle is moving in a circular way as seen it from an inertial frame a resultant non zero force will be there. This is because of the fact that when a particle moves in circle will definitely have an acceleration then only it can maintain a circular path. If speed of the particle is constant then there will be only one acceleration which act towards the centre and its magnitude is v^2/r .Then because of this acceleration a resultant force will be created and that resultant force will act towards centre and is called as CENTRIPETAL FORCE or FORCE TOWARDS THE CENTRE. It is clear to say that this Centripetal force is created by some external source such as gravitation, tension, friction. It is not a new kind of force it is just like an upward or downward force. If suppose the speed of the particle is not constant then you will find one more acceleration that is tangential acceleration because of change in speed and it will not acts toward centre.
