Good day, I am working on a design for speed brake power generator and am struggling with the calculations to decide on rack and pinion mechanism that will generate electricity when a car of about 1500kg drives over the speed brake. I also have to consider corrosion of the parts, so was looking at using stainless steel rather than carbon steel. Your assistance is highly appreciated.
In order have corrosion resistance properties of your mechanism parts you must go with stainless steel for better results .....and on comparing strength for loading about 1500 kg,the stainless steel has less strength compared to carbon steel(215 MPa <370MPa).....so in order to provide good strength to stainless steel you need to increase the dimensions.....so dimensions of the parts decide the strength.....and for corrosion resistant stainless steel plays a better role.....
