Why are the majority of threaded fastener formed versus machined

Thread fastener manufacturing by forming is preferred instead of machining because of various reasons which are listed below-

1) The Forming can be done on mass level with high production rate as compared to machining which is used for low production rate.

2) Very close tolerence is obtained as compared to machining.

3) No material is wasted in forming, so saving in blank material and overall cost of production is reduced.

4) Due to cold forming the material propery are enhanced, like hardness, wear resistance , strength.
