A partly-filled propane tank is positioned on a weigh scale that indicates its initial mass is 10 kg. The tank is then connected to a supply line through which propane flows into the tank at 10 grams/second. What will be the mass of the tank and its contents if it filled at this rate for 15 minutes?

Homework Answers

Answer #2

Here the initial mass of tank and contents =10kg

Now its filled with a rate of 10 grams/second.

15 minutes = 15*60 = 900 seconds

So In 15 minute newly added Propane = Fill rate * seconds in 15 minutes

= 10 * 900

= 9000 grams

= 9 kg ( because 1 kg = 1000 grams )

So after 15 minute mass of tank and content = Initial mass + Mass of fillled in 15 minutes

= 10 + 9

= 19 kg. <<<<<<<<< ANSWER

A rigid copper tank, initially containing 1 m3 of air at 295 K, 4 bar, is connected by a valve to a large supply line carrying air at 295 K, 15 bar. The valve is opened only as long as required to fill the tank with air to a pressure of 15 bar. Finally, the air in the tank is at 310 K. The copper tank, which has a mass of 20 kg, is at the same temperature as the...

Suppose water is leaking from a tank through a circular hole of area Ah at its bottom. When water leaks through a hole, friction and contraction of the stream near the hole reduce the volume of water leaving the tank per second to cAh 2gh , where c (0 < c < 1) is an empirical constant. A tank in the form of a right-circular cone standing on end, vertex down, is leaking water through a circular hole in its...

A disposable heat pack works by a chemical reaction that combines iron in the package with oxygen from the air when the outer packaging is removed producing iron oxide. You have probably seen the product of this reaction in what is commonly called rust. The reaction releases heat, which allows the pack to reach a sufficient temperature that is...
