For each of the following polymers would you use yield strain or ultimate strain for designing purposes?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

This is depend on its nature... if the polymer is ductile in nature the we will use yield strength because as polymer is ductile it will change its shape permanently after yield point

if polymer is brittle in nature then we will use ultimate strength as brittle polymer will not show yield point they will directly fail at ultimate strength.

polymer like rubber will use yield point and polymer like backelite will use ultimate strength as it is cross linked polymer.
