There are three modes of heat transfer 1)conduction 2)convection 3)radiation

Conduction takes place by direct contact between objects by direct contact.in solids lattice vibrations and electron movements.

Convection:fluid motion takes major role in heat dissipation Medium(fluid) required to transfer heat.

Radiation:it does not require any medium. The heat transfered as electromagnetic wave which can travel through vaccum(no medium present). Heat comes from the sun by radiation only. Radiation heat transfer mode doesn't require medium. No participating medium required.
