Arrange the following materials in the order of indentation size from smallest to largest when tested using the same indenter under the same load.
Hardened H13 steel, poly-vinyl chloride (PVC), 1040 steel, Al-Si alloy, polyethylene, cubic boron nitride (cBN)
The Indentation Size Depends upon the hardness of the material. Higher the hardness, smaller will be its indenter size. So the material can be arranged in order of indentation size from smaller to larger based upon its hardness as listed below.
1) Cubic Boron Nitride (Second Hardest material after Diamond)
2) Hardened H13 Steel (The Hardening process increases its hardness)
3) 1040 Steel
4) Al - Si Alloy (Hardness depends upon the silicon content. Silicon increases hardness)
5) PVC
6) Polyethylene
