Consider two separate tanks of volumes 8.0 m3 and 3.0 m3 each containing carbon dioxide (CO2). The conditions in the larger tank are 300 K and 600 kPa and in the smaller tank are 1000 K and 2000 kPa. The gases in the two tanks are allowed to mix and reach an equilibrium temperature of Te and pressure pe. Assume the tank is insulated.

(a) Determine the final temperature Te (K) and pressure pe (kPa).
(b) Calculate the entropy generation (kJ/K) during the mixing process. (c) What causes the entropy generation.
