How can I calculate densification/locking strain from a compressive stress-compressive strain diagram?

How can I calculate densification/locking strain from a compressive stress-compressive strain diagram?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Consider the compressive Stress strain graph below.

Constitutive behavior of a typical cellular material. The solid line shows schematically the relation between stress σ and strain ε. The dashed line shows the idealization of the stress-strain curve in the rigid, perfectplastic, locking model.

  • In stage - I, the material is treated as rigid.
  • In stage - II, the material is in perfect plasticity with yield stress σ - pl.
  • In stage - III, the material is again treated as rigid, with the densification strain εD

The dotted line to be drawn in your strress strain curve. The vertical line on right hand side will give you the densification strain, as marked in the graph.
