explain the cooling mechanism and material removal pumping during drilling of oil ?

Homework Answers

Answer #2

During drilling due to friction of tool with chip a significant amount of heat is generated.By pumping oil this heat is used to warm the oil and oil get heated and expell out of drilling zone hence cooling of drilling zone is performed by oil pumping.

Whereas material removal is also performed by oil pumping. Oil is pump with a significant velocity so that chips formed will be comes out with oil jet.

Hence pumping of oil performed both action cooling as well as material removal.

An oil company has developed a new viscofier drilling fluid material used to increase the yield point (YP) . The company conducted a pilot test on 50 samples of mud. The results showed that the average increase in (YP) was 10 lb/100ft^2 . Assume this follow a normal distribution with sample standard deviation of 6. We want to see if there is evidence that the new viscofier material maximize the YP by greater than 8 lb/100ft^2 . Conduct a hypothesis...

Assume that hitting oil at one drilling location is independent of another, and that, in a particular region, the probability of success at an individual location is 0.3. If the r.v. Y is the number of drillings until the first success occurs, A. What is the probability that a driller will hit oil on or before the third drilling? B. Find the mean and standard deviation of Y. C. For five years, an oil drilling company has operated profitably in the state of Alaska (the only place it operates). Last year, the state legislature instituted a flat annual tax of $100,000 on any company extracting oil (or natural gas) in Alaska. How would this tax affect the amount of oil the company extracts? Explain. Suppose instead the state imposes a wellhead tax---that is, oil companies must pay a tax of $2.00 on each barrel of oil extracted. How would...

There’s a long-running debate in government on whether or not we should allow oil-drilling and mining in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. If you’re not familiar with this at all, please google it and get a broad idea of what the debate is about. Reflect on this issue, and suppose that you’re asked to draw a production possibilities curve (PPC) to illustrate clearly the conflict between the two sides of the debate. What would you put on the two axes...
