In making of worm shaft of gearbox, what manufacturing process does shaft nomally undergo?

Please mention: both primary (bulk shape forming) and secondary (or finishing) processes.
and note each advantages and disadvantages

ANd lastly, relate to the best material and its appropriateness in this manufacturing method (e.g. does it have suitable castability?)
