How do you spec a suitable motor for a reciprocating
saw.
Having looked at how they work.
worm onto a Bevel gear
Also some models have a spur gear train. I found some information
that the saw runs at 2400 RPM. But to source a motor I could not
find any given torque values.
Power reciprocating saws use a reciprocating mechanism driven by a motor to move a blade back and forth. The mechanism convert continuous motion, such as constant speed of motor shaft into intermittent motion , driving the blade in alternating direction. This reciprocating action can be achieved by a wobble plate or swash palte drive, a slider crank mechanism , a scotch yoke drive or a cam.
A wobble plate or swash plate is essentially a disk attached to a straight shaft at an oblique angle, which causes its edge to appear oscillate along the shaft axis. Translational motion is achieved by means of a follower that presses against one of its two surface near its circumferance.
