2. What is priming a pump? Why is it important before initial start-up?
Priming in a pump is a process in which air is removed from pump and suction line. In this, impeller of pump and suction line are submerged in water.
Why to do priming?
Air is removed from pump before initially starting it, because air inside the pump can cause cavitation in pump. If air is present, then pump will push the air and it will not generate enough pressure.. This can cause overheat of the system and eventually pump will fail if run continuously.
