The following data is available for the design of air conditioning of a small theatre:
Outdoor design conditions = 34ºC DBT and 70% RH
Comfort conditions required = 22ºC DBT and 50% RH
Total seating capacity = 350 persons
Sensible heat gain per person = 90 W
Latent heat gain per person = 30 W
Sensible heat due to solar gain and
infiltrated air = 46.6 kW
Latent heat gain due to infiltrated air = 23.3 kW
Fresh air supplied = 0.4 m3/min/person
Desirable temperature rise in the theatre = 8ºC
Assume that the recirculated air is mixed with the fresh air after leaving the conditioner. Find:(a) Room
sensible heat factor (b) The percentage of total air circulated : (c) The refrigeration capacity of the conditioner
coil. Assume that the air leaes the conditioner coil with 100% RH

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given: Design of air conditioning of a small theatre:
Outdoor design conditions = 34ºC DBT and 70% RH
Comfort conditions required = 22ºC DBT and 50% RH
Total seating capacity = 350 persons
Sensible heat gain per person = 90 W
Latent heat gain per person = 30 W
Sensible heat due to solar gain and
infiltrated air = 46.6 kW
Latent heat gain due to infiltrated air = 23.3 kW
Fresh air supplied = 0.4 m3/min/person
Desirable temperature rise in the theatre = 8ºC
Assume that the recirculated air is mixed with the fresh air after leaving the conditioner.

Assume that the air leaves the conditioner coil with 100% RH

To find:

(a) Room sensible heat factor

(b) The percentage of total air circulated

(c) The refrigeration capacity of the conditioner coil.

4.1A clothed or unclothed person feels comfortable when the skin temperature is about 33oC. Consider an average man wearing summer clothes whose thermal resistance is 0.109 m2 ? oC/W. The man feels very comfortable while standing in a room maintained at 20oC. If this man were to stand in that room unclothed, determine the temperature at which the room must be maintained for him to feel thermally comfortable. Assume the latent heat loss from the person to remain the same....
