ONLY use method of alligation to solve the problem. I already know the answer, I want to know how to solve it with alligation. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT ALLIGATION IS, DON'T ANSWER THE QUESTION. THIS IS FOR A PHARMACY EXAM.

A health food store sells a mixture of raisins and roasted nuts. Raisins sell for $3.50/kg and nuts sell for $4.75/kg. How many kilograms of each should be mixed to make 20 kg of this snack worth $4.00/kg? ONLY USE ALLIGATION TO SOLVE THE QUESTION. DO NOT USE A DIFFERENT METHOD. DO NOT USE A STUPID TABLE WITH SYSTEM OF EQUATIONS.

ONLY USE ALLIGATION TO SOLVE THE QUESTION. I AM INTERESTED IN THE METHOD, NOT THE ANSWER.

Answer #1

Alligation:- it is a rule that enables us to find the ratio in which two or more ingradients or material at the given price must be mixed to produce a mixture of desired price

Rules of alligation :- when two ingradients are mixed in a ratio then

(quantity of cheaper/quantity of dearer)=(C.P of dearer)-(mean price)/(mean price )-C.P of cheaper

where mean price ---cost price of an unit quantity of the mixture is called mean price

quantity of the cheaper/quantity of the dearer=475-400/400-350

=75/50=3/2

hence ratio of the quantity of the cheaper and dearer is 3:2

to make mixture total=20 kg

quantity of cheaper=12 kg and quantity of the dearer=8 kg
