Homework Answers

Answer #1

running at 8mph

calories burnt by running for 1 hour = 720 calories

divide both side by 60 .

calories burnt by running for 1 minute = 720/60 =12 calories

so

calories burnt by running for 75 minutes= 12*75 = 900 calories

walking at 2mph

calories burnt by walking for 90 minutes = 240 calories

divide both side by 90

calories burnt by walking for 1 minute = 24/9

we need to find distance for person to burnt calories by walking same as calories burnt by running for 90 minutes.

we found that calories burnt by running for 90 minute is 900 .

so

time in hour = 337.5/60=5.625

so person need to walk for 5.625 hours to burn 900 calaories .

we know distance= speed * time .

here time is 5.625 and speed 2 mph . so

distance= 5.625 *2 =11.25

so

the person has to walk 11.25 miles

For example, say you weigh 160 pounds (approximately 73 kg) and you play singles tennis, which has a MET value of 8. The formula would work as follows: 8 x 3.5 x 73 / 200 = 10.2 calories per...
