A collection of coins consisting of Nichols dimes and quarters has a value of $3.30 if there are three times as many nickels as quarters and 1/2 as many times as Nichols how many coins of each kind are there

Answer #1

Let there be x nickel coins.

Then by condition we have,

there will be 3x quarter coins and x/2 dime coins.

By information we have,

[x/20]+[3x/4]+[(x/2)/10] = 3.30

i.e., [x/20]+[3x/4]+[x/20] = 33/10

i.e., [1+(3*5)+1]*x/20 = 33/10

i.e., [1+15+1]*x/20 = 33/10

i.e., 17*x/20 = 33/10

i.e., x = (33*20)/(17*10)

i.e., x = 66/17

Therefore, there are 66/17 nickel coins, 33/17 dime coins, 198/17 quarter coins in the collection.

I think there are some wrong information in the data, because coins must be whole number. I think total value may be $3.40
