Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given, standard guidelines for fluid intake recommend that a 20 kg child should have 1000 mL of fluid plus 50 mL for each full kilogram of body weight over 10 kg per day.

If y ml is the recommended fluid and x kg is the weight of the child then,

y = 1000+(x-10)*50

i.e., y = 500+50x

Here x = 29 pound 13.1542 kg

Now, y 500+50*13.1542 ml = 1157.71 ml 39.14683222 ounce 39.15 ounce

Therefore, required 8-ounce glasses of fluid is = (39.15/8) 5

Hence, 29-pound child should have 5 glasses (8-ounce) of fluid each day.
