In my opinion,

students can quickly understand the easy methods and even for the below average students it is comfortable to learn how the direct step was written or solved rather than eating our brains about the brief solution.

Now , here Multiplying by a common denominator is the best way to simplify complex fractions since it is easy for the lecturer to help students understand in a thorough manner.
