. In 2008, there were approximately 945 thousand restaurants in the United States. In 2012, there were 980 thousand restaurants (Source: National Restaurant Association). Assuming that a linear relationship exists between the number of restaurants and time, predict the number of eating establishments in

Answer #1

Let the linear relationship be : y = ax+b.

Given that when x = 2008 then y = 945 and when x = 2012 then y = 980.

Putting this values in the above relationship we get,

945 = 2008a+b........(i)

980 = 2012a+b..........(ii)

Subtracting (i) from (ii) we get, 4a = 35 ,i.e., a = 35/4 ,i.e., a = 8.75

Putting this in (i) we get, b = 945-2008*35/4 ,i.e., b = -16625

Therefore, the required relationship is : y = (8.75)x-16625

Here, you have missed the year to predict the number of restaurants. So, I am unable to provide that answer.
