A triangular flower garden is 3 ft wider than it is tall. The area of the garden is 27 ft2. Find the height and the base of the triangle.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

area of triangle is given by

here b is base length and h is height .

given garden is 3 feet wider than its tall . so if height (tall) is x , then base length= x+3 (3 feet wider than its tall) . so

b=x+3 and h=x

(x-6)(x+9)=0

x-6=0 or x+9=0

x=6 or x=-9

length will be not negative . so x=6 .

height = 6 and base length =6+3=9

so answer is

height = 6

base of triangle= 9
