An organization you’re involved in is planning a year-ending pizza party to celebrate another successful year. As chair of the planning committee, you’ve wisely worked a deal with a local pizza place to provide large pizzas at $8 each. The budget will allow at most $150 to cover the food. There is a $10 delivery charge. We want to know how many pizzas we can get for $150 at $8 each, plus a flat fee of $10 for delivery.
1. Use the information from the table to draw a graph with the number of pizzas on the x axis and the total cost on the y axis. Use your graph to estimate the solution to the problem.
2. Write and solve an equation that represents the number of pizzas you can buy with the delivery charge added. Write the solution to the problem in a full sentence.
3. If you needed to purchase 21 pizzas, how much would it cost?
4. What is the slope and what does it represent?
5. What is the y intercept and what does it represent?
6. Describe the connection between the graph of a line and how we use the line’s equation to solve problems like the pizza party problem. How would you find the solution on a graph?
Pizzas Bought Total Cost ($)
0 10
5 50
10 90
15 130
20 170
25 210
30 250

Answer #1

Solution -

1)

We have to find integer solution here .

We can see from graph we can get only 17 pizzas .

2)

Price of buying x pizzas

So we will write inequality

So we can purchase maximum 17 pizzas.

3) For x = 21

21 pizzas cost $178 .

4) Here slope indicates price of one pizza, it is 8 here.

In this problem, you will solve for the equilibrium population of an idealized city experiencing rural-urban migration, following the augmented Harris- Todaro model from Chapter 3. The incomes earned in urban employment and in the rural area are y and yA, respectively, and t is commuting cost per mile. J is the number of available urban jobs. a) Suppose the city is a rectangle 10 blocks wide with the employment center at one end (it’s an island like Manhattan). The...
