At a bakery, 82% of the customers buy donuts. 50% of the customers buy donuts and a coffee. What is the probability that a customer who buys donuts also buys a coffee? Express your answer as a percent rounded to the nearest tenth.
Solution:
Given : 1) 82% customer's buy donuts.i.e. 82 customers out of 100 buy donuts.
2) 50% customer's buy donut and coffee i.e. 50 customers out of 100 buy donuts and coffee
We have to calculate, probability that a customer who buys donuts also buys coffee.
As you might know from the GMAT math formula's the probabilty of the occurence of an event A is
defined as: P(A)=( No. of ways A can occure) / ( Total number of possible outcomes )
As we have asked to express the answer in % we have to multiply above formula by 100
i.e. P(A)= 50/82 x 100
P(A) = 60.98 say 61%
ANSWER: Probabilty that a customer who buys donuts also buys a coffee is 61%
