Jack wants to measure the height of a tower. He walks exactly (N+50) m from the base of the tower and looks up .The angle from the ground to the top of the tower is 60 . Find the height of the tower. Assume N= 30.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given Info

Horizontal distance from the base of the tower -------> N + 50 m

Angle of elevation ( The angle from the ground to the top of the tower ) ------> 60 degree

Apply Trigonometric Ratio

Assuming a Right angled triangle

tan( 60 ) = Opposite side / Adjacent side

=> tan( 60 ) = Height of the tower ( h ) / Horizontal distance

=> tan( 60 ) = h / ( N + 50 )

Also , it is given that -------> N = 30 m

=> tan( 60 ) = h / ( 30 + 50 )

=>  tan( 60 ) = h / 80

=> 3 = h / 80

=> h = 80 3

Therefore , height of the tower is 80 √ 3 m
