Lets take an example of Hitachi where it wanted to predict the customer buying patter and offer them discounts based on that.

The Data was presented to PWC for past 10 years and was asked to define a relationship between buying pattern and discount that should be offered to them.

The project was an Advance predictive analysis along with data mining.

Advance predictive analysis because they wanted to define a relationship to future buying with past data.

Data mining because they had to filter out customers who were the target to this scheme (Customer who bought Hitachi products atleast thrice in past 10 years).
