A loan officer manager needs to offer overtime to employees to meet the loan processing deadline before the end of the quarter. Rodolpho can complete the job in 8 days. Mortimer can do the job in 5 days, but can’t start until 2 days later than Rodolpho due to scheduled vacation time. The company must meet the deadline, and decides to offer both employees overtime. Rodolpho works alone for the first 2 days and then is joined by Mortimer. How many days will it take the two employees to finish processing the loans?

Therefore, in 1 day Rodolpho can do 1 / 8 th work.

In 2 days Rodolpho will complete 2 * 1 / 8 = 1 / 4 work

Therefore, amount of work let to be completed = (1 - (1 / 4))= 3 / 4

After 2 days, Mortimer joins.

Mortimer can complete the work in 5 days.

In 1 day Mortimer can complete 1 / 5 work.

In 1 day Mortimer and Rodolpho can complete[ ( 1 / 8 )+( 1 / 5 ) ] 13 / 40 th work

13 /40 work in 1 day

so, 3/ 4 work can be completed in ( 3 / 4 ) / (13 /40) days

or, 3/ 4 work can be completed in 2.308 days

Rodolpho had completed 1 / 4 work in 2 days and both combined completed the remaining in 2.308 days.

Therefore, the total number of days taken to finish processing the loans is 2 + 2.307 = 4.308 days
