Fragmented market is where number of small players are operating in a particular industry. It is opposite of consolidation where 1 or 2 large players are ruling the industry. In case of fragmented industry none of the players will have authority or power to influence the industry or to change the industry

eg: indian banking sector is being consolidated from being fragmented by

1) vijaya bank, dena bank and bank of baroda merged

2) merger of associate banks with SBI
