Suppose Punjab's population is 37.5 million people and its population is expected to grow at a rate of 4% annually. How long will it
take for the population to double?

(a) How long will it take for the population to double if the growth rate is 2%.
(b). Analyze the above scenario.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer a.

Current Population = 37,500,000

Desired Population = 2 * 37,500,000
Desired Population = 75,000,000

Growth Rate = 4%

Let it will take n years to reach the desired population

Current Population * (1 + Growth Rate)^Time Period = Desired Population
37,500,000 * 1.04^n = 75,000,000
1.04^n = 2
n * ln(1.04) = ln(2)
n = 17.67 years

It will 17.67 years to double the population.

Answer b.

Current Population = 37,500,000

Desired Population = 2 * 37,500,000
Desired Population = 75,000,000

Growth Rate = 2%

Let it will take n years to reach the desired population

Current Population * (1 + Growth Rate)^Time Period = Desired Population
37,500,000 * 1.02^n = 75,000,000
1.02^n = 2
n * ln(1.02) = ln(2)
n = 35.00 years

It will 35.00 years to double the population.

Answer c.

If growth rate is higher, then it will take less time to double the population.
