Are sport facilities and sport teams worth the financial investment for cities? In other words, are cities better off to invest their money in other projects other than sport facilities and/or teams?

Answer #1

Yes, I believe that the sports facilities and teams are worth the investment. Cities must invest in sports in order to encourage sports among both adults and children. This promotes focus on good health and fitness. The result is that there are substantial savings on medical expenses and insurance paid for by the Government.

Also such investment is a source of high revenue for the cities. They invite tourists and sponsorships from outside. The revenue generated by the sales of the sports events is shared by the facilities so created. In the long run the costs are almost fully recovered.

Hence cities must spend substantial amounts on sports facilities and teams. However they must take into account the other needs of people and balance out investments in other projects as well. Essential services must be given priority.

You are planning to buy a house worth $500,000 today. You plan to live there for 15 years and then sell it. Suppose you have $100,000 savings for the down payment. There are two financing options: a 15-year fixed-rate mortgage (4.00% APR) and a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (5.00% APR). The benefit of borrowing a 30-year loan is that the monthly payment is lower. But since you only plan to hold the house for 15 years, when you sell the house...
