How will the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby (divided 5-4 decision) impact Hobby Lobby’s stakeholders and its future success?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The Supreme Court in the Burwell v. Hobby Lobby had decided that corporations cannot be compelled to provide for contraceptive care for their women employees. This is considered a land mark decision since it repealed the law under the Affordable Care Act which has made it mandatory for the employer to provide birth control means to female employees at no cost.

The judgement may have significant impact on the female workforce who were earlier relying on their employer to provide for their birth control measures. This may be negatively viewed by women and discourage them to attend work. However, the company's success may not be affected by this decision since it relates to only complying with a law which it thought was morally objectionable. And also since the court has ruled in its favour, it shall go on to only see more success in the future.
