Suppose that a code (similar to a postal code) is of the form LDL DLD, where 'L' is an uppercase letter from A to W (i.e., 23 possible letters) and 'D' is a digit from 0 to 5. Suppose that such a code is randomly generated. (a) Find the probability that the code has no repeated letters. (b) Find the probability that the code either starts with an 'A' or ends with an even digit (note that 0 is even)....

A binary message m, where m is equal either to 0 or to 1, is sent over an information channel. Assume that if m = 0, the value s = −1.5 is sent, and if m = 1, the value s = 1.5 is sent. The value received is X, where X = s + E, and E ∼ N(0, 0.66). If X ≤ 0.5, then the receiver concludes that m = 0, and if X > 0.5, then the...

In long-distance digital phone transmissions, the information travels in series (bit by bit) over the telephone network and is clocked at the rate of a clock. When transmitting this information, it can happen that long sequences of ’1’ are sent. Therefore, they can show a DC component on the line (twisted pair, coaxial cable) that may be filtered by the installation (presence of transformer). To avoid such filtering, the natural binary code is transformed into AMI (Alternate Mark Inversion) code....

The purpose of this problem is to see, roughly, how fast the electric field inside a conductor reaches zero (i.e., electrostatic equilibrium) if the conductor is placed in an electric field. a) Use ? = ??⃗ , where ? is the conductivity of the conductor, Gauss’s law ?⃗ ∙ ?⃗ = ?/?0 , and the continuity equation ?⃗ ∙ ? + ?? ?? = 0, to show that ??⃗ ?? = −(?????)?⃗ b) Determine the time constant c) Find the...
