we know the relation, frequency(f) and time period(T) are inversely proportional.

so, f=1/T.

if so width of combination of positive half cycle and negative half cycle changes so time period changes. then freuency also changes.

frequency variation is possible in two ways.

i.e from cycloconveters and inverters.

basically cycloconverter is used to convert AC voltage at one frequency to AC voltage at different frequency.

inverters are used to convert fixed DC voltage in to variable AC voltage with change in magnitude of voltage and frequency.
