(a) The main objective of using a multiplexer is to interface lot of signals to one input channel. This is done by giving all the signals as input to the multiplexer, and selecting the appropriate signals, by controlling the "select" lines of the multiplexer. ?It helps in saving input ports on the control computer

(b) Only those sensors which output digital values can typically be interfaced to this multiplexer.
