IEC 61131-3 deals with basic software architecture and programming languages of the control programme within the plc.It defines two graphical and two textual programming languages.The three graphical languages are

1) Ladder diagram - in this we will use simple NO and NC contacts to implement the logic

2) Functional block diagram - In this we will use some predefined blocks to develope the logic.

3) Sequential Functional chart - we will use charts as well as predefined blocks to develope the programme in this type.
