6.4 The FM input to a PLL demodulator has an unmodulated center frequency of 10.7MHz. (a) To what frequency must the VCO be set? (b) From which circuit is the recovered modulating signal taken?

Answer #1

a). PLL demodulator has a mixer, a VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) and a low pass filter as shown in the figure below.

VCO frequency should be same as input carrier frequency 10.7MHz

b). As shown in the figure above the output (demodulated FM signal) is taken from the filter circuit. Here the filter is a low pass filter that removes all the high frequency component from its input signal.

The resistance between the input terminals of an oscilloscope are very large. Does that make it more like a voltmeter or more like an ammeter? Why? Do you make measurements in parallel or in series with the circuit elements? The Oscilloscope has two display axes. What quantities are typically displayed on the two axes in sweep mode? What about in XY mode? Describe how to measure the amplitude of a sine wave signal in sweep mode. How does that differ...

You've decided to build a radio to listen to your favourite FM radio station, which broadcasts at 93.90 MHz. For the tuner, you'll be using an RLC circuit, but the only inductor you happen to have on hand has a value of 0.510 μH. Unfortunately, there's another radio station — which you don't want to listen to — at a nearby frequency of 93.50 MHz. To prevent any interference from this 93.50 MHz radio station, you want the peak current...
